BC fires coach for meeting with Jets (AP)

Boston College fired Jeff Jagodzinski on Wednesday, days after he was warned of dismissal if he interviewed for the coaching job with the New York Jets. BC athletic director Gene DeFilippo told Jagodzinski (jay-guh-ZIN'-skee) on Saturday that his job would be in jeopardy if he went through with the Jets interview.


Georgia's Stafford, Moreno enter draft (AP)

With Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno headed to the NFL, Georgia probably won't have to worry about another preseason No. 1 ranking in 2009. Stafford, a junior who set a school record with 25 touchdown passes this season, and Moreno, only the second Georgia player to rush for more than 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons, said Wednesday they are leaving school to enter the NFL draft.


Yale hires its first black head coach (AP)
Jacksonville Jaguars defensive assistant Tom Williams was introduced Wednesday as the head football coach at Yale, making him the first African-American to hold the job and only the second black coach in the Ivy League. "I am thrilled -- absolutely thrilled -- to accept this position," Williams said.

Seminoles star DE Brown headed to NFL (AP)
Florida State pass rusher Everette Brown is leaving school a year early for the NFL draft. Brown led the Atlantic Coast Conference in sacks and tackles for loss this past season. He was a near-unanimous pick for the all-conference team and was a second-team All-American. The school announced Brown's decision Wednesday.
Louisville backup QB Simms to transfer (AP)
Louisville's football coach says quarterback Matt Simms will transfer from the program. In a statement from the university, coach Steve Kragthorpe says Simms told him of his desire to transfer and said he wishes Simms the best. The release did not say where Simms would go. Simms is the son of Phil Simms, the 1987 Super Bowl MVP and television sports broadcaster.
Meyer, Stoops: Fast track to greatness (AP)
Urban Meyer was about 8 years old when he knew he wanted to be a football coach. Bob Stoops is the son of a coach, so you might say coaching is in his genes. Now, at relatively young ages, Meyer and Stoops have risen to the top of their profession. Their salaries top $3 million dollars per year. Their teams have won more than 80 percent of their games.

Maryland wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey will skip his senior season and enter the 2009 NFL draft. Heyward-Bey ranks second in school history in career receiving yards (2,089), is third in receptions (138) and tied for third in touchdown catches (13).
